The Sweatiness I Do Not ApproveWell, I can't say that in the past I would've associated Seattle with blinding sun and all-day boating. But that's how the last week has been up yonder 'Round the Sound. Not that I have been on a boat for the past week...Regardless, it's been a great kickstart to my summer and hopefully the pictures give a bit of definition to that. Also, to reverse-echo
Jules' predicament down under: having no a/c in 90 degree weather is akin to stupid.

Emma, Get Me a SwordIt's always quite irksome to discover a new edition of a DVD you already own is being released; even more irksome when it's from
Criterion (have they done that before?) by one of your favourite directors:

I wonder if you get free DVDs if you work there; if so, I know where I'm applying in a year.

So that's how you open the doorI discovered last night that channel 61 on my television is a transmission of a video camera over my building's front door. It is simultaneously the most fascinating and boring thing to watch. If only it had audio...

An Unfortunate Misleading14:57...14:58...14:59...Alright Al,
get off the stage. Or as Professor Bob Carter puts it: your "circumstantial arguments are so weak that they are pathetic. It is simply incredible that they, and his film, are commanding public attention." At least we have him to thank for creating the internet...

I miss you Ole GunnarSome observations made watching World Cup highlights tonight:
- It is impossible to tell the skill of a team by looking at the score of a match.
- For some reason, Ronaldinho reminds me of Baraka from Mortal Kombat
- All soccer announcers should have a thick Irish brogue.
- When did this country named Togo happen?
- Zinedine Zidane is one of the coolest names, ever.
- After the most lopsided loss of the first match, the U.S. still appears to suck at this sport. (Next up: Italy- who we've never beaten)

Burn, Candle, Burn! The beginning of this quarter was filled with a whole lot of nothing; The past two-and-a-half weeks I've hardly had time to do nothing. And with finals crowding my conscious thought, this week doesn't look to give me any slack either (botching my audio final this morning only adds to the stress).
Anyways, it all started a couple weeks ago when my parents flew into town for a week. It was good to see them and the majority of the time I spent showing them around the city. They were also kind enough to help me organize my apartment a bit more and add a few extra accoutrements to it. [My bathroom is 95% completed (photos soon) and my next projects are to finish off my room. Should be able to knock that out in my three weeks off hopefully.]
Next, I jetted off to Chicago on a Thursday to see my friend Chad Pirotte get married. He had asked me to be an usher in the wedding and I was lucky enough to be able to fly out there in participate. His whole side of the wedding party was friends of mine who I've known since college or even grade school. Needless to say, it was a blur of activity and laughter in Windy City highlighted by some of these photos. I had forgotten how absolutely massive that city is and also how much I miss hangin' out with all those guys.
Then I arrived back in the Emerald City last Sunday where
Andy flew in (late) that night. It was a really welcome break to be able to hang in the city with an old friend and show him all the stuff I've been lookin' at for the past ten months or so (as well as introduce him to the hilarity of Ali G). He even found out that you can go up to the 73rd floor of the Columbia Center to get a bird's eye of the city, which is much cheaper than the Needle and also a better view. We also bussed down to Tacoma on Friday to check out the Museum of Glass, which was a bit underwhelming at times but did include a live glass blowing demonstration inside a giant metal volcano thing. Well, even that was a bit underwhelming (making a giant glass beet ranks as the #4 most boring thing you can make out of glass).
Now, it's the beginning of my finals week, but even then it doesn't seem like I have much to do for them (besides worry about how much I screwed up my grade in my Audio class). Well, I'll ride the wave for a bit more before the Sine Curve of Life brings me back down...

Somebody's Got a Car OutsideI saw my second show in Seattle last night, with
The Biery, at the Showbox downtown.
The Walkmen came into town promoting their newest offering: A Hundred Miles Off. Having absolutely devoured their last album, I had purchased their new one the day of its release. Not too surprisingly, it was a bit of a letdown, but there was still a lot of good schtuff within that make it a solid disc. (Check out Louisiana, All Hands and the Cook, Lost in Boston, and Tenley-Town if interested). Pitchfork's review of it was pretty accurate in that it doesn't contain quite the fluctuating intensity of Bows & Arrows. Regardless, Hamilton Leithauser still belts out every song live as if he was being flogged by a ferocious octupus and Matt Barrick's underappreciated drumming could anchor the Titanic. (The other chaps ain't too shabby either) Do yourself a favor and check those fellas out before.....uh...nightfall.
