Four DownI usually attempt to see all five films nominated for the Best Picture Oscar every year even though the Golden Boy Association tends to not always have the best discernment in their decisions*. Well, they seem to have done it again. I just finished watching
Ray and it received a lukewarm reception from me at best. The film just didn't seem to find its flow, which is in large part due to the failure of the director. Oh, that reminds me: he was nominated for Best Director this year (nice job Academy). Even little things like the inconsistency of the lettering on the dates/titles and the CG-smooth transitions bugged me. It isn't completely without merit though- Jamie Foxx was pitch-perfect (pun probably intended) as Ray Charles and was pretty much the only reason I kept watching. I'd be willing to bet a 10-spot to any takers that he'll be clutching the little Golden Boy come Sunday night. It belongs to him or Leonardo DiCaprio (who was equally amazing
The Aviator). The other two reasons I enjoyed the movie are named Kerry Washington and Sharon Warren (Foxx's Foxes in the film...actually they're more his Mother Hens, but I wanted to say Foxx's Foxes because it sounds better...and they both really are foxes, in the parlance of our times).
*Too many errors to list, but I could start with that horrible trainwreck
Chicago (it doesn't even deserve a hyperlink)
