8-0, Here We Go

Chalk another tally in the victory box for the Wildcat's basketball team! Sure we haven't played anyone of note yet, but it's basically the same schedule as the past eight years and we always found ways to lose a few of those games up to this point. And with Rutgers, Eastern Illinois, and CMSU on the horizon, a double digit win total could arrive sooner than previously expected (with the Scarlet Knights being the only possible hitch in the ride). It's also somewhat surprising when you look at the abundance of young players we have contributing: Peete, Stewart, Hughes, Harris, Thomas, and Martin. I'm just glad I finally have one of my sports teams playing with some heart this year. Let's hope it keeps beating into the Big XII season...

Oh Shallow, Where Hast Thou Gone?

What ever happened to the band Shallow? Does anyone remember them? They were a great indie band from KC from the 90s. I have two of their CDs (High Flyin' Kid Stuff and Running Away From Something Exploding) and I love both of them, but can't figure out if they're still around or not. Julie Shields has one of the most eerily beautiful voices I've ever heard and Jason Shields and the rest of the band (is there anyone else?) do a great job of complimenting her with fuzzed-out atmospheric soundscapes. Unfortunately, her voice may be lost forever....Wait a minute. Nevermind that- I just found what appears to be the Shieldses's new band- The Capsules! Oh frubious day! Well, before I check out this new wonderment, let me tell you, dear reader, to find some Shallow songs stat! (Missle Command and Where the Evening Went are two of my favs)
