Listening for Feedback

I know I haven't posted in a while and part of that's due to the fact that I'm moving back to KC in August, so I've been searching for a job and an apartment (alas neither slot filled yet). I'm trying to make my site a little Flashier too (pun intended), so Ive been reading up more than writing. I would also like to hear back from you- yes you- as to what other content I could add to my site. Any suggestions are welcome. Well, mostly any. See that little blue text right below here that says 'comments'- yeah, you could put your ideas in there...

Video Game Review

Title: Full Spectrum Warrior
Systems: Xbox and PC
Review: I've been a fan of the tactical fighting games since Derek bought Rainbow Six my first year of college. It just seems, though, that ever since that original version, every sequel or derivation thereof (Conflict Desert Storm, etc) seems to be less about tactics and more like a FPS. Full Spectrum was supposed to be a 'return' to strictly tactical fighting....which it is, but...it's not that fun. I mean, the first few levels were enjoyable: learning to flank the targets and maneuvering the two squads to a better advantage. But the next nine levels were pretty much the same thing. The sound design was great with bullets whizzing by and ricocheting off of ruined buildings and the soldiers making great off-the-cuff remarks. Besides that, not much else stands out to me. The gameplay was certainly original, but was frustrating at times. For instance, once you tell your soldiers to fire on a target, it's basically up to them to hit that target; you have no control over how long it may take or even if they're able to shoot the target. I didn't get the chance to play the multiplayer version (since I have no Xbox Live), but I can't imagine it being too much better. I'm not even sure if there's a 'versus' option for multiplayer. Just leave this one on the shelf and buy Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. :)
Playtime: 8-9 hours
Rating: C

God Bless the Detroit Pistons!

Thus, as I've been saying they would all year, did my Detroit Pistons win the NBA Championship! Wow, what a series. Not only did they win, but they completely dominated the highly lauded Los Angeles Lakers. Besides a prayer shot by Kobe in Game 2, the Lakers were outplayed at every moment. And the Pistons did it by playing solid, unselfish, defensive, team-oriented basketball. Now let's gear up and get ready for the repeat in '05! DEE-TROOOIT P-P-P-PISTONS!

Oh, crap...

Okay, I'm a huge fan of Philip K Dick with his A Scanner Darkly being one of my favorite novels of all time. Sometime last year I had heard that it, A Scanner Darkly, was being adapted into a film with Charlie Kaufman handling the adaptation (no pun intended). Then recently I had heard that Kaufman's script had been turned down (how is that even possible?) and that Richard Linklater was taking over. Now, I haven't seen a Linklater-written movie since Dazed and Confused and it's not that I have anything against Dazed and Confused, but how is this guy better suited for adapting the mind-warping story of A Scanner Darkly than Charlie Kaufman- The ultimate mind-warping writer! And then to make matters worse, I was checking my film news today and found out that the lead parts are going to Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder! Ted Theodore Logan? And the chick from Little Women? Argh- Ted Logan should've stuck with the Wyld Stallions because he can't act his way out of a box.

It's been a week already?

This summer is progressing much too quickly; I'm gonna have to remedy that...somehow. Anyways, this weekend's been a lot of fun. I went home Saturday for Brad's Graduation party (6 years in the making...well not really, it's just taken him 6 years. It's not as though we've been planning anything.) and Joe's Toga party on the Plaza. Chris and I got stuck at Brad's for a while since there were tornado-force winds outside for about an hour. We didn't mind too much though; a little Dance Dance Revolution and Texas Hold'em helped pass the time. I didn't get to see a tornado though...another life goal still unfulfilled (You'd think living in Kansas for 17 years would pretty much guarantee that wouldn't you?). So, Chris and I were a little late to Joe's party, but I guess the majority of people bailed on him anyways. The bastards. We had a good time though. After a few drinks, we sat down for a thorough analyzation of Terminator 3: Rise of the Not-so-scary Female Robot. Then we all fell asleep when a Dudley Moore movie came on next...I also had a fun dinner (if you can count a bagel as dinner) with Taylor tonight. Although, I'd have to say Taylor, that you hugged about as good as a parapalegic.

And how bout them Pistons? Huh? HUH!? I told ya they're gonna win it this year...but ya didn't believe me! Why didn't ya believe me!?!

Sunday Fun-day

Man, what a great day! I caught up on some sleep. Woke up to watch my Royals playing (alas, they lost again). Played some Full Spectrum Warrior on loan from the evil Blockbuster (review to come later). Spent the afternoon hanging out with a friend I hadn't seen in a while. Had some delicious Mongolian food for dinner with Mikey and then went to see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (I finished the book this afternoon). I was happy to see the new director (Alfonso Cuaron) make this film in a slightly darker tone. I even overheard one kid behind me complain to his mother that this one kinda scared him. (Which reminds me of a theory....but I'll post about that another time. Tomorrow maybe.) Then, I came home and turned on my television to find out the Pistons beat the Lakers in game 1 of the NBA Finals! Haven't I been telling everyone they're gonna do it this year? Well, maybe I haven't told everyone online, but I've been vocal elsewhere. So after some good music, I plan to close this night out and hope the next week lives up to this start. Adieu......

Wonder-ful

I really like this movie Wonder Boys. I've seen it about three or four times now and still seems to stay fresh and enjoyable each time. Makes me want to read some of Chabon's novels. I'm flying through the third Harry Potter book right now. It's kind of become a habit for me to read each book before seeing the new movie. At least this third movie looks a little darker than the first two. It better not end like the others though...

I'm still looking for a job in the Kansas City area (since I'm leaving the fair city of Manhattan come August). It's still rather frustrating to find hundreds of computer jobs listed and yet only a few entry-level positions. How's a guy supposed to get started in this racket anyhow!? Maybe I'll just start my own...
