ahem..............Five

If you...
1. ...owned a restaurant, what kind of food would you serve?
It would be some type of themed restaurant. Like a Fuedal Japanese Steakhouse, where you would have to remove your shoes and sit on the floor or else you would have to commit hari-kiri.

2. ...owned a small store, what kind of merchandise would you sell?
DVDs and film/camera equipment. And not just the run-of-the-mill DVDs, but foreign and hard to find ones as well.

3. ...wrote a book, what genre would it be?
Most likely some twist of Science Fiction. More in the vein of Philip K Dick than Battlefield Earth.

4. ...ran a school, what would you teach?
Film Studies or Reading/English....No, It would be Film Studies.

5. ...recorded an album, what kind of music would be on it?
Indie rock- der.

There and Back Again

Well this weekend was a good dose of fun. Joey-O and I headed down to Columbia Friday night (cause someone had to work until 11.) and hung out with Laura (i.e. someone ;-) ) and her friend Jenny. Everyone seemd to be swamped with work though so nothing too crazy happened. Which is good because we could've been punished with a CHORE if it did! No kidding either. Like wiping down the bench. *shudder* The Walkmen concert was great on Saturday! The bar it was held at wasn't anything to stare at, but it served its purpose. Hamilton Leithauser (what a name!) can really belt out a tune or two...or three...or twenty... And if any of you nay-sayers insist on doubting me, just download 'The Rat' or 'Thinking of a Dream I Had'. I dare ya!

In other news, I finally figured out (with the help of the Toad) how to get my thumbnails to work on my photo section. For those lacking an introduction to my face, you can take a look at 'Daper'- I'm the guy on the TV.

Roof of the World

For those of you who keep up to tabs on my current readings (via my 'About' page - which reminds me I need to start logging my readings like I used to do on my ole KSU page), you may have noticed that I have been reading Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. In truth, I started reading it after work on Tuesday (around 12:30) and finished it at 11:00 that night. It's an incredible true story about a climbing expedition on Mt Everest in 1996 (as told by one of the climbers). It definitely struck a nerve in my mind. I checked out four books on the Mountain from the library and am trying to track down the IMAX video. It's just astounding to think that humans have actually stood on the very top of the world, mostly through sheer willpower. It makes me want to drive out to Colorado and go climb another mountain. Maybe this summer...

[ Height of Mt Antero (last mountain I climbed) - 14, 269 ft
Height of Mt Everest - 29,028 ft !!! ]

Notebooks and Notes

It's Friday night and I'm sitting around reading and whatnot when I remember that Ryan wanted me to pick up a Royals hat for him (He lives in California, so they're a bit scarce on Royals material out there.) I drop by Hastings before the hat store and am surprised to find the new Walkmen CD - Bows and Arrows- there. (More on that later.) I then hop over to the mall and findthe Royals hat relatively quickly as well. Two-for-two. So, on my way home I remember I wanted to look for a pocket-sized notebook at Hastings that I could use to jot my thoughts down on. So I decide to drive to Target since it would give me time to listen to my new CD. (More on that later.) I get to Target, find the 'Notebook section' and find two different pocket-sized notebooks. One is 79c, but has the large metal binder rings (not good for ease of pocket use); The other is 99c with side binding (Bingo!) Three-for-three.........As I'm about to turn around, I notice that the regular sized notebook (same brand and everything) only costs 97c!! This has to be mismarked. I look around for the nearest employee which happens to be a punk kid shuffling CDs in the Electronics department. He won't work. I walk over to Customer Service. The only employee there seems to be another teenager having a difficult time opening the cash register. She calls for assistance over the intercom. She won't work either. Another five minutes go by and still no one closely resembling a manager is anywhere in sight. I finally give up and find a girl with a pricing gun wandering the aisles:

Me: Hey, I know this may sound funny, but I found this little notebook that I'm wanting and it costs more than this regular sized notebook. Is that mismarked?
Target Girl: Lemme see here....
(Two minute pause as she warms up her gun and punches a variety of buttons.)
She scans the items.
Target Girl: No, the little one is more expensive
Me: Blank stare...
Target Girl: Blank stare...
Me: Beats Girl over the head with notebook

(Alright, the last line isn't true...) So, refusing to succumb to this ridiculous pricing mistake, I drive across town to Wal-Mart. Same exact notebook- 75c! Stupid Target. Now some of you may find it ridiculous to quibble over a mere two cents, but it's more the principal of the whole thing. That and the fact that the girl seemed to have no clue how backwards the situation was.

The Oscars were pretty much by-the-book last night. I was happy to see Lord of the Rings sweep all 11 categories it was nominated for. The only dissapointment I had was not seeing Bill Murray win for Lost In Translation, although Sean Penn was pretty amazing as well. Maybe they'll throw Mr. Murray a courtesy Oscar for The Life Aquatic next year.

Oh yeah, you should all hear the single 'The Rat' by The Walkmen. Definitely the best song (and probably the best album) I've heard this year.
