Words From the Grave

"People always talk about audiences being so smart. I don’t know about that. I don’t believe that the audience is smart at all. They’re really pretty stupid."
"Before we all became victims, we were all just different. Back in the ’30s, we appreciated each other’s difference and nobody wanted to be a victim. Now everybody just cries and gets a lawyer."

- The late cinematographer Conrad Hall

Amen Mr. Hall.

The Sickness

I woke up yesterday morning (early morning) to find my stomach telling me it was in need of some instant purging. So after obliging it, I attempted to go back to sleep, only to find it awaking me fifteen minutes later for the exact same reason. Repeat this cycle about ten times and that was how I spent my morning. Needless to say, I was unable to go work and spent the entire day bed-ridden, half-asleep, and sore all over. I'm feeling better today, but I'm sticking to the Jello and Saltines diet just to make sure. (Which I must add is a most delcious diet, except for when you get those pieces of Jello that have somehow hardened.) I keep wondering how horrible it must be to have some type of illness that would make you feel this way for days/weeks/months on end. Which in turn made me realize I should utilize my energy to the fullest when I'm not in such a state.

If any of you have noticed, I've almost got the photography section completed. It all works except for the thumbnails not showing up. Hopefully, I'll get that fixed in the next day or so.

Nostros Creemos Strikes Back!

It's almost that time of year again...The Royals returned to Surprise, Arizona last week for the beginning of Spring Training. With all the acquisitions and resignings in the off-season, there's a definite buzz about the team that seems to be spreading. If all goes according to plan (or at least relatively close to plan), they should be fighting with the Evil Empire (Yankees payroll=$190mil, Royals payroll=$42mil) come November for a chance at the AL Pennant. I can't wait for the season to start. I was hoping to get Opening Day tickets, but I found out that they're completely sold out today. However, my Dad bought a couple of seats for us for a series of twenty games. Third base side, Upper Deck, First few rows. Should be a lot of fun....It brings back a lot of memories from childhood; going to the ballpark with Jon and Ryan and wearing as much Royals gear (shirts, hats, buttons, gloves, bags, etc) in hopes of bringing some luck to the team. Always praying for a foul ball to be hit into the upper deck and right into our gloves. Anyways, I'll hopefully be out at the stadium a lot this year.

I had a great time with all my cousins, aunts, uncles, brothers, etc, etc this weekend. If only we could've had a whole week to hang out. It was kind of ironic that our whole point in gathering was to celebrate my Grandmother's 80th birthday, yet I hardly remember seeing/talking to her. Hopefully some of the video interviews with her friends turned out (Stories about golden tie-tacks and giant metal dinosaurs never get old). In other news, I tried my hand at kite-flying on Sunday only to find that the $3 Justice League kite from Target has a lifespan between 30-40 seconds. Do I really have to shell out $10-15 just to fly a kite- DO I TARGET!?!

A Good Old Story

So on this day of traditionally romantic ideals, it's nice to watch a movie that can be somewhat sappy. funny, and idealistic yet also truthful about that sometimes ridiculous notion known as love. And I just so happened to find one this afternoon on TCM - The Philadelphia Story. Now granted, I have seen this movie before, but it makes me smile every time. I'm sure most of you will have your bias towards movies that aren't in color or were made before 1980 (let alone 1950), but I strongly suggest you all give this one a chance. Let me know what ya think...

(And if you don't trust me just look at the original tagline -
Uncle Leo's bedtime story for you older tots! The things they do among the playful rich - Oh, boy!...

.....airight, on second thought, just take my word for it)

Soon to be Biery-ed

Hey all you hepcats, check THIS out! For those of you who don't know, Joanna Biery is the sister of my good buddy and old roomie Andy Biery (Would you like to see my ferret?). I think the clip is in a competition with some others for Best Proposal. I can't figure out how to watch the clip yet, but if you do (or even if you don't), go ahead and vote on it.

Wonderful Wintery World

The snow here is absolutely incredible! There's been a deluge of the crystalline white powder since Monday that has softly blanketed the entire town. It's bizarre how the snow transforms the entire atmosphere of this place. Everyone retreats into a hibernation. Every car moves at a lethargic pace. Every animal is hidden. Every plant burdened. A temporary halt to the ever-quickening speed of life. I love it!

(P.S. I'll try to have some pictures online soon :) )
