Mini Me
As I walk to my car this mundane monday morning in my bi-weekly pressed pure black work attire, I admire my beautiful Mable. Aside from the mysterious markings which seem to scratch their hideous selves into her hide every month or so, she really does sparkle; the sun glistening off her top, beckoning me towards her. Alas there seems to be something lacking...or maybe something added? By George, that's it! If she were maybe a few-4 ft shorter with greater handling, she could be even more beautiful. She could be....
ideal?

Oh what a beautiful MOOOORNing...
Man, it's really gorgeous outside today. The wind blowing through the trees. A gentle rain showering the streets. Pedestrians running for cover. I'm not being sarcastic either, I really enjoy this type of weather. OOh - A fire engine! Wonder where he's goin.
So I went back to Kansas City yesterday to see this author (Jonathan Lethem (pronounced Lee-thumb I think)) speak. I had read one of his
earlier books and liked it quite a bit. It reminded me a little of Philip K Dick. First off, I was late leaving Manhattan, so I had to skip dinner with my parents (which I felt bad about) to hurry to the lecture/reading/Q&A thing. Then, Joe and I found the Rockhurst campus where he was speaking...or so we thought. Turns out he was at the Rockhurst North Campus (The South Campus looks like an abandoned grade school). So we ended up being thirty minutes late, but he hadnt even started. When he did, he read an entire chapter from his
new book. The chapter was actually pretty mundane with a lot of flowery dialogue that really didnt do anything for me. Maybe it was just the way he read it (which would get an 'F' for conviction and believability). He then fielded some questions from the audience which turned out to be somewhat humourous. Most of the questions were the usual pretentious book reader nonsense (i.e. treating the author in a godlike fashion, etc). One guy seemed to dissaprove of his newer writing and asked him, in one way or another, if his abundant use of descriptive writing came from his painting background. Lethem seemed to think that was some sort of compliment and went on to another question- ha. Overall he seemed somewhat arrogant and his newer writing seems to be drifting towards more convential fiction..... Which kinda pisses me off. I'll probably give his
new one a try at the library anyways.

Pretty Jason Make Trip
I'm finally going to another concert tonight. It's been quite a while since I've been to one...at least it seems so. I guess I saw
Radiohead around the end of Augustus. Seems longer.
This show should be a little more intimate though since it's at the Bottleneck. Hopefully it won't be the usual "we show our appreciation by standing stone still" crowd like it usually is in Lawrence.
P.S. Get ready for one Ell of a team, Texas!

The Great and Powerful Oz!
Does anyone remember the movie
Return to Oz? I watched it for the first time in years today and forgot what a wonderfully fun film it is! Tik-Tok, Jack, The Gump, Billina, The Gnome King, The Wheelers, Princess Mombi, Ozma (Did the
band take their name from this?)....It's a lot darker film than the original, but still enthralling (and better overall in my opinion). The special effects are pretty astounding- What ever happened to good stop-motion animation and animatronics? I'm a fan of computer graphics (if done well), but I would love to see this kind of animatronics used more prevalently in film. I'm really surprised at how overwhelmed I was while watching this film. It dug up all sorts of memories and feelings from my past. What an inspiration!!
