the symptoms of our getting older
the problems that say we don't mind
that most of us never get over
the memories mingled with lies

coincidence gave a confession
that no one's allowed to forget
I don't wanna give the impression
that predestination is set

the distance will increase the danger
where certainty's never enjoyed
regarded as equal yet stranger
embark then embrace then destroy

observing the process will change it
and afterwards even if you
subconsciously rearrange it
it doesn't seem any less true

remnants of thought disappearing
and even transcending concern
disturbing but somehow endearing
conditioned to never unlearn

and no one can tell me to listen
and no one can tell me what's right
'cause nobody has my permission
and no one can see in your mind

Gone is the good music (sorda)

Well, I had a pleasant surprise greet me yesterday morning--- my car was broken into! Luckily, Mable didn't have any damage done to her, but the stupid punks stole 6 of my CDs (including Beth Orton, Gomez, Radiohead (grrrr), and U2). They also "discovered" a bag of change I had in my armrest compartment and were nice enough to rip my ashtray out of the console, spilling change on the floor in the process. So in conclusion, these high-class thieves were able to get away with maybe $25! What a prize! So during and after work, I called all the CD buyback stores in Manhattan and put out an APB for anyone selling back those CDs. I also filed a police report on the incident, but I'm not holding my breath.

The end of yesterday turned out a little better than the beginning. I had promised Jennie that I would help her make a video for her Red Cross Internship. I didn't really know the purpose for the video (and I still don't), but we had a lot of fun. The plot basically involved Jennie coming to the Red Cross to be interviewed and finding out that eveyone who works there is insane. The cast included Jennie (as The Applicant), Mike (as Sahdik Abdurahman the Baby-Crazy Psychiatrist), Ashley (as Fanny Olsen the Eye-Twitching Bearded Assistant), Jason Lance (as The Normal Director/Hallucinating Irish dancer), and Myself (as Rod Tidwell the Vietnam Vet). I had a lot of fun setting up the shots and messing with the camera. People got sick of me asking for different takes sometimes, but I think the finished product justified them. It reminded me that Mike and I need to get to work on adapting his short story...

Commentary Crazy

I can't seem to stop watching commentaries on my various DVDs recently. Currently, the 3 tracks on the Fight Club double disc (hard to find, so buy now! - sorry Mike) have definitely peeked my interest. I finished watching the track with Chuck Palahniuk (the author) and Jim Uhls (the screenwriter). It was enlightening to hear them discuss their differences in writing and what they chose to keep in the film as opposed to the book. There were even parts of the film that Palahniuk thought were better written than his novel haha. Anyways, I'm moving on to P.T. Anderson's commentary on Boogie Nights now.

Work was pretty boring this morning. My boss has the whole lunch shift overstaffed this week because it's Secretary's Day tomorrow (I didnt even know there was such a thing). So basically, there are 4 of us servers standing around and chatting since we can get our work done even faster. We also had the fire inspector pay us a visit today. Which meant, I got to watch employees scamper around behind his back to make sure everything was up to par. I think it turned out okay...

Return to the Zoo?

So Chris and I were discussing U2 this weekend and both thought that there last album (although still good) was a little overproduced. I guess Bono has said the same thing as well (or at least I was told so) I was also told that U2 is working on their next album and it is being overseen more by Edge than Bono. Not that I have anything against Bono, but if the next record goes back to more craziness (ala Acthung Baby and Zooropa) than I'm all for it. Probably won't come out until next year though. I guess I'll have to settle for new Blur and Radiohead.

6 days gone by...

Yikes - I hadn't realized that it had been almost a week since I've updated! There hasn't been too much news on the homefront (but then again, there never really is). I went home this weekend to see the fam (or at least most of it) and to get out of Manhappenin' for a little bit. Friday night was Buck Night at The K, so of course I was obligated to go. What a game to be at! After getting behind 3-0, the Royals stormed back in front of 39,000 fans with Ken Harvey hitting the game winning HR in the 11th. The energy from the crowd was the best I've seen in a loooong time. (The Royals finished the weekend by sweeping the Tigers again) There was also this incredibly cute girl sitting in front of us, but she seemed to be attached to one of those morons....oh well. Saturday afternoon, Phil, Mike (Weatherford), and Jon and I took to the links...the mini links. I dominated the first 18 holes, winning by 5 strokes and shooting par on all but 3 of the holes. My 6 footers were unstoppable! Unfortunately, Jon took control on the second 18, shooting an incredible 11 under. Way-to-go-bro! I also got to hang out with Joe and Chris this weekend, which is always a blast. We seem to be able to do nothing for hours on end and have the best time doing it. I only wish I lived closer to them.

And in other news, Happy Easter to everyone! Long live the King!

Well, it looks as though Ole Deputy Dog has finally flown the Jayhawk coop! I can't say that I'm very surprised- He's been snake-bitten his whole tenure at Gay-U. "*sniff sniff* I love those kids, I just wasnt good enough to win a championship." Anyways, I'm not shedding any tears. And in other news, the Boys in Blue rocked the Indians again. woohoo. I'm interested to see how this Ken Harvey kid turns out (ESPN has described him as "a masher that AL pitchers will learn to be afraid of" hmmm).

Musical Moments

I found these questions over at the Friday Five, so here goes:

1. What was the first band you saw in concert?
Hmmm, I think it was They Might Be Giants. I didnt really start going to concerts until High School and Matt, Joe, Chris, and I all went to this one at Memorial Hall in KC. It was pretty fun- for the last song, everyone in the place formed a giant conga line!

2. Who is your favorite artist/band now?
Easy. Radiohead.

3. What's your favorite song?
Now that's hard to say. I dont think I have any one in particular that sticks out in my head, so for right now Im gonna go with All I Want Is You by U2.

4. If you could play any instrument, what would it be?
I dunno- drums or guitar (although I can somewhat already play both).

5. If you could meet any musical icon (past or present), who would it be and why?
Django Reinhardt!!!! No, just kidding. Hmmm...I would say Bono most likely. He's an amazing musician and he's done tons of other stuff, so Im sure he would have some interesting stories to tell.

Good Morning Starshine!
Well, I woke up this morning to find the sun shining brightly, the Kansas City Royals on their way to a 9th straight victory, an email from the friends at w.a.s.t.e. about an amazing new concert this summer, and another email notifying me that the new Blur single (Out of Time) comes out on Monday. Wow!

I've been waiting for a new album from Blur since my Freshman year (When I borrowed 13 from Brad). I was pretty dissapointed to hear that Graham Coxon quit the band, although I have heard some rumours about him possibly coming back. Here's hoping. Then there's that other British band named Radiohead... This new festival they signed up for (The Field Day Festival?) is unbelieveable: Radiohead, Beck, Spiritualized, Beth Orton, Interpol, Liz Phair, Beastie Boys, Sigur Ros, Blur, Elliot Smith, Blackalicious. And that's only about half of the bands! I would give anything to attend it, but Im betting the tickets sell out in a heartbeat. Plus, it's being held somewhere around Long Island. *Sigh*

Well, I'm trying to understand the in's and out's of this whole blogging thing as well as creating web pages. It's a tad bit more difficult than I expected, but I'm still trying nonetheless. Meanwhile, the Royals continued to dominate today, beating the winless Detroit Tigers 4-2. I'm telling you, if they bring back those Baby Blues then the Pennant is as good as ours!
